THU 27/1/11: Britain's Secret Schindler: Revealed - 8pm on Five

This documentary explores the remarkable story of Nicholas Winton, an unlikely hero who rescued hundreds of Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia in the run-up to World War II. Featuring archive footage alongside testimony from Winton and many of the children he saved, the film gives credit to the man who took action at a time when the rest of Britain seemed to be turning a blind eye to the plight of the Jews.

10pm From Hell is a 2001 American thriller film about the Jack the Ripper murders, loosely based on the graphic novel of the same title by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell.(18)

Definately one to record!
This film was a 12A at the cinema but when it came to video and now DVD, it became a 15. The BBC says its a 15 so be careful when watching and showing any clips from the film. (Interesting how Holocaust clips are Exempt)

Sun 16/1/11: King Arthur at 9pm on Sky 1

The producers of the film claim to present a historically accurate version of the Arthurian legends, supposedly inspired by new archaeological findings. The accuracy of these claims is subject to debate, but the film is unusual (though not unique) in representingArthur as a Roman officer rather than a medieval knight. It was shot in EnglandIreland, and Wales.

Friday 14/1/11: DEFIANCE at 9pm on Sky Thriller

Daniel Craig is Tuvia Bielski, the tough Jewish Pole who saved hundreds from the Nazis. Powerful true story drama.

The film opens with on-screen text stating: "A true story". It is August 1941 and Nazi forces are sweeping through Eastern Europe, targeting Jewish people. Among the survivors not killed or restricted to ghettoes are the Bielski brothers, who are Jews: Tuvia (Daniel Craig), Zus (Liev Schreiber), Asael (Jamie Bell), and Aron (George MacKay). Their parents are dead, slain by the local police under orders from the occupying Germans. The brothers flee to the forest, vowing to avenge their parents.

WED 12/1/11: 5:55pm on Sky Action - Valkyrie

The most famous attempted assassination of Hitler is a great Tom Cruise movie.
The film depicts the 20 July plot in 1944 by German army officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler and to use the Operation Valkyrie national emergency plan to take control of the country. The attempt itself and an early attempt at the beggining of the movie are great ways to draw students into Anti-Hitler sentiment within Germany.
